SEO Plugins are tools that connect with your content management system (like WordPress) to help you perform SEO on your site.

They check pages on your site to make sure you’re in compliance with best practices.

If there is anything missing they provide you with a checklist-style framework.

These tools are often free but do come with premium versions.

If you’re creating content for your business and want to get found in search engines, I highly recommend you install an SEO Plugin on your site.

It’s cheaper than hiring a freelance SEO and it helps you create great SEO foundations.

If you’re a freelance SEO or part of an agency, I recommend you use these plugins. They increase your productivity and help teach your clients how to perform SEO themselves.

But, not all Woocommerce and WordPress SEO Plugins are created equally.

What Is The Best SEO Plugin For WordPress And WooCommerce?

The best SEO plugin for WordPress and Woocommerce is without a doubt, Yoast SEO.

They are at the forefront of SEO for WordPress sites and provide the most in-depth and actionable advice through their plugin making SEO easy for everyone.

I can’t recommend Yoast enough.

In the editor for every page of your site you’re given a comprehensive breakdown of:

  • The good
  • The bad
  • And the ugly

…of your on-page SEO.

You’ll be able to catch any glaring errors or make little improvements to make your page as Google-friendly as possible using their traffic light system:

I do recommend using this plugin on its own, and not combining it with other plugins.

Sticking to one ensures:

There is no competition between the two tools and your site isn’t slowed down.

Best of all?

You can start using this tool for free!

Let’s look at how you can set it up.

How To Set Up The Yoast SEO Plugin On Your Website

Getting the Yoast SEO plugins set up on your website is mega quick and easy to do.

If you don’t know how just follow these simple steps to get started.

Let’s take a closer look…

Step #1: Download The Yoast SEO Plugin

The easiest way to download the Yoast SEO plugin is through the WordPress dashboard.

You can find that on your sidebar in the “plugins” section:

Select the “add new” option from the pop-out menu.

This will take you to a page where you can download lots of new plugins.

Search for Yoast SEO. You’ll see a couple of options pop up.

Click the “install now” button to begin the download.

You’ll then need to activate it by clicking the button that shows up afterwards.

 Yep, it’s that easy.

Next, let’s look at how you can customise the settings for your site.

Step #2: Fix Any Outstanding Problems

Head over to the Yoast SEO dashboard.

This can be found under the new “SEO” tab that appears on your side bar:

On the main dashboard page you’ll be greeted with a list of outstanding problems.

If you’ve got a new website this will probably be around zero.

But if the site has been running for a while there may be some problems to solve:

Take care of any issues here before moving onto the next step.

Step #3: Activate The Features You Want

Under the “features” tab in your Yoast SEO dashboard you’ll be given a list of features and the option to either activate or deactivate each of them.

Let me show you the key features and explain whether you need them on or off…

Readability Analysis: PERSONAL PREFERENCE

Yoast will assess the readability of each post and tell you if it’s good or not.

This isn’t essential to have on…

But if you’re new to publishing content it can help you improve your overall quality.

Ryte checks to see if your site is being indexed into Google.

If you’re using WordPress and are taking advantage of Google’s search console…

You needn’t worry about this.

Admin Bar Menu: PERSONAL PREFERENCE

This gives you the option of the drop-down menu from the top of the page when editing.

I personally don’t use it but if you like it, knock yourself out.

Cornerstone Content: ENABLED

This allows you to earmark specific blog posts as key content and track performance.

I’d turn this on for the major pages on your site.
